March 18 - 20 the RED Mountain Racers were delighted to welcome teams from around the province to compete in the 2016 TECK U14 Provincial Championships at the Legacy Training Centre at RED Mountain Resort. We were fortunate to have perfect weather conditions for these incredible athletes to showcase all the hard work and hours of training that went into preparing for these races.

On Friday the boys competed in two one run slalom races on the Face of Red. Ihns and Shandro tied for first with Athans a mere 0.03 back. As seen below there were two ties in the top ten for this race:

The second men's slalom race of the day provided another opportunity for this talented squad to show case their abilities. This time it was Athans and Ihns who finished 2 seconds ahead of the field.

Saturday morning was crisp and cool and the sunshine was bright - perfect conditions for a little GS racing for both the men and ladies.  The men took to the FACE of RED for two one run GS races while the ladies remained on Back Trail for a two run GS race. 



Saturday morning Skylar Beauregard proved unbeatable though Devin Blaser and Isaac Athans were right on his heels.

On Sunday,  the final day of racing, the men headed to Back Trail for a two run GS race and the ladies took on a challenging slalom course on the FACE of RED. 

In the men's GS RED Mountain's own Heiko Ihns proved to be unbeatable finishing over a second ahead of the pack.

When the races were complete and the athletes had assisted with teardown, everyone gathered on the deck of RED's historic day lodge for the final awards ceremony.  

It was such a tremendous weekend watching these young athletes competing. They have all achieved such strength and skill and have so much to be proud of. 

After the calculations were complete it was with great pleasure that Heiko Ihns of the Red Mountain Racers and Lauren Koper of the Black Dogs Ski Club were named Overall U14 Provincial Champions for 2016.

The top ten overall results for both the ladies and men are listed below:

Ladies' Overall Champion - LAUREN KOPER from the Black Dogs Ski Club

Note -  Abigal King and Cory Martin are tied for 10th overall

Men's Overall Champion - HEIKO IHNS from the Red Mountain Racers
