Ryan Moffat at Youth Olympic Games
Hafjell Olympic Slope in Norway is home to the alpine competitions at the 2016 Lillehammer Youth Olympic Games. With Opening Ceremonies celebrating 1,100 athletes from 40 countries behind them, it was the globe's top U18 racers in the super-G speed event that lead the way on the first day of competition.
With 55 men to start the day, in the end for Canada it was Ontario’s Justin Alkier taking 19th and Kelowna’s Ryan Moffat clocking in just over 2 seconds off the pace for a 21st finish.
“I was running out of gas towards the bottom, but hung on”, said Moffat, the Okanagan Ski Team member.
For the ladies Ontario’s Ali Nullmeyer placed a very impressive 7th behind Austria (1 and 2), Switzerland (3 and 4), Germany (5) and host Norway 6th while BC racer Amelia Smart from Invermere (formerly Vernon) finished 19th.
