Fredrik Willumsen Haug of Norway took the gold in one minute and 04.24 seconds, followed by Lessard in 1:04.44 and Romanin in 1:04.65.

‘’The course was really soft, especially in the middle, so I really had to ski the bumps in the course,’’ said Haug, 15. ‘’It didn’t feel like a good run but it was fast and I’m really happy.’’

Lessard was competing for the first time at the Mackenzie Investments Whistler Cup.

‘’It feels good to get a strong result,’’ said Lessard, 15. ‘’It was a good run considering it was hard to see. The conditions were challenging but I pulled it through. It was particularly foggy on the last pitch and could not see the ground.’’

Romanin reached the podium despite being the 44th starter. The start of the men’s race was also delayed two hours due to conditions.

‘’I gave it my all and I am pleased,’’ he said. ‘’I was tired because the many delays.’’

In women’s competition, Cassidy Gray of the Panorama Ski Club, missed the podium by a mere 0.01 seconds placing fourth in 1:06.52.

‘’I was a little late going into the last pitch,’’ said Cassidy, 16. ‘’So the last 10 gates I was just trying to make it up, going as straight as I could and in as much of a tuck as I could. The bottom was problematic for many skiers but I was able to hold on.’’

Selina Egloff of Switzerland won the gold medal in 1:06.33 seconds. Ine Haugland of Norway took silver in 1:06.36 and Sofie Sund Malin of Norway was third in 1:06.51.

‘’The course was very fast,’’ said the 15-year-old Ergloff in her first competition overseas. ‘’That is usually not ideal for me but I was able to overcome that.’’
